Small businesses are prime targets for scammers according to a new report released by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Better Business Bureau (BBB).

From fake compliance filings to calls from imposter utility workers demanding payment, Arizona businesses have fallen victim.

Now, the FTC with Attorney's General across the country says they are cracking down, having sued 24 suspected scammers in Operation Main Street.

Three cases are being prosecuted in Arizona by AG Mark Brnovich's office.

But you don't have to be the next victim.

The agencies and the Better Business Bureau are offering resources and tools for small businesses and their employees to recognize scams and avoid being taken.

Some suggestions include:

-Verifying mailed invoices, even if they look real
-Avoid responding to emails that ask for sensitive information, even if you trust the sender
-And following up any demand for payment with a phone call to your power company before you pay
