Scottsdale police say a security guard at a women's clothing store is accused of stealing more than $2,000 from the business's safe.

Scottsdale police report that on Sunday they were called to Chico’s near Scottsdale and Lone Mountain roads.

When they arrived, they met with security officer Allen Leroy Morrison, 26, who reportedly told them that someone had broken into the money box.

Morrison showed officers a broken locker and a small bag belonging to one of the contract employees, who were there to redo the flooring.

The bag had over $700 in cash in it.

In talking with the contracting crew, it was learned that Morrison had asked for a hammer earlier in the day.

A manager at the store reported to police that there were a total of six money bags stolen, containing over $2,000.

Police say that while they were talking with the manager, Morrison went to a nearby Starbucks to use the restroom.

Police went there and reportedly found $1,300 in cash in the trash can.

Morrison was interviewed by police and allegedly admitted to taking all six money bags. He said he got scared and ditched part of the money in the contractor’s bag and the rest in the trashcan.

He has been charged with burglary and theft.
