An alleged thief armed with a sword is accused of breaking into his cousin's Phoenix apartment and stealing several items.

Phoenix Police report that on Monday night 27-year-old Laberia Simpson broke into his cousin's apartment after being kicked out for smoking cocaine.

Police say the victim picked up a sword and confronted Simpson after hearing noises in his apartment. Simpson — who was also armed with a sword — threatened to cut off the victim's hand.

The victim grabbed the sheath of Simpson's sword during a struggle and cut his finger, officials said. The victim then ran from the apartment.

When police arrived, they located Simpson outside the apartment with a suitcase filled with items belonging to the victim.

Simpson, who is on felony release for a prior crime, is being held with bond on charges of burglary and theft.
