The Chargers will remain in San Diego for at least the 2016 season.
Beyond that, the franchise's future is still unclear.
Chargers chairman Dean Spanos posted an open letter Friday to confirm the news that the team will not relocate to Inglewood, California and share a stadium with the Rams -- at least not in time for the upcoming season, as previously reported.

ESPN reported Friday that Spanos may get his wish for a new facility.

But in case a new stadium fails to materialize: Sports Illustrated reports the Chargers still have the option to join the Rams in the Los Angeles area. That option is good until Jan. 15, 2017.
Two weeks ago, the Rams announced they will relocate from St. Louis to the LA area next season, 21 years after the team made a move from LA to St. Louis.
