Detectives with the Phoenix Federal Bureau of Investigations have found an item potentially related to the 2006 murder of 16-year-old Katherine Tortice.

In a media release, the FBI said its Phoenix Evidence Response Team and FBI LA Underwater Search and Evidence Response Team found an item "consistent with what investigators were looking for" in a pond in McNary, Arizona.

Due to the ongoing investigation, the FBI said it could not provide details on what the item was nor its possible relation to the case.

Detectives had been searching the pond since Tuesday. The FBI said it would continue to search in and around the pond depending on weather.

Tortice’s body was found in a grave near a pond in McNary on December 12, 2006. She was missing for about a month before her body was found.

Anyone with information on Tortice's murder is asked to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI.
