A driver has been taken to the hospital by helicopter after he collided with a semi-truck in Glendale on Saturday morning.

Just after 7:30 a.m. Glendale police responded to a head on collision involving a semi and a smaller truck near 67th and Maryland avenues.

Police say the driver of the smaller truck, an adult man, was taken to a local hospital by a helicopter in critical condition.

Officials say the driver of the smaller truck was trapped inside following the collision and had to be extricated by fire crews.

The semi-truck rolled on its side following the crash. The driver of the semi was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Police say the semi truck was heading southbound while the smaller truck was traveling northbound and swerved into the southbound lanes for unknown reasons and collided head on with the semi.

The driver of the smaller truck remains in serious but stable condition.

Officials say impairment does not seem to be a factor in the collision.
