A man was arrested early Friday morning after he was stabbed during an attempted break-in at a Mesa apartment complex.
Mesa police responded to the complex near Alma School and Broadway roads around 2:30 a.m. after the victim reported that a man had broken into her apartment.
According to police reports, Daniel Lopez forced his way into the woman's apartment and during the altercation she stabbed him.
Lopez, whose girlfriend also lives in the complex, reportedly fled back to a nearby unit as police responded to the scene.
Officers found a trail of blood leading from the victim's apartment to Lopez's, where they found him and took him into custody.
Lopez reportedly told police he had planned to rob the victim because he had been out of work for several months and needed money to pay bills.
Lopez was booked on one count of second-degree burglary and one count of assault.
