Reports of a suspicious package shut down the light rail central station on Central Avenue and Van Buren Street on Friday.

Buses were redirected and the rail was operating on a single track while the situation was investigated. Van Buren was also closed from First Avenue to First Street.

Phoenix police said the package was a harmless unattended bag.

Authorities cleared the scene and Valley Metro said regular service resumed just before 3 p.m.
