Police say an outpatient at a Phoenix behavioral and mental health center allegedly has stabbed two bystanders outside the facility.

Officers took the suspected 25-year-old attacker into custody Monday afternoon, but didn't immediately release his name.

Police say the two victims were taken to hospitals with critical injuries. One was a 60-year-old man and the other a 49-year-old woman.

Phoenix police were called to the Lifewell Behavioral Wellness facility near Seventh Avenue and Osborn Road after witnesses reported the attack.

Officers say the alleged attacker had received treatment at the outpatient facility Monday morning.

Police say he returned later and allegedly attacked two people as they stood outside for an unknown reason.

They say a worker at the wellness center fought off the suspect and prevented a much worse situation.
