A Phoenix man accused in the death of his girlfriend's young daughter has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Larry Works III was sentenced Friday after previously pleading guilty to second-degree murder.

The 21-year-old Works originally was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder and child abuse after the Jan. 20, 2014 death of the toddler.

According to court records, Works and his girlfriend took the 18-month-old child to a Phoenix hospital where medical staff pronounced the toddler dead and notified authorities.

Police detectives say they saw bruising to the child's chest and abdomen, a bite mark on her left side and what appeared to be burn marks on her lower left leg.

Authorities say an autopsy showed the toddler suffered multiple injuries from blunt force, including a lacerated liver.
