Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers and rescue crews responded to a serious crash involving five vehicles, which left one person dead.
DPS said Wednesday that a Toyota pickup truck rear-ended a Mazda hatchback, killing the driver of the Mazda, 54-year-old Robert Bathel.
Officials do not believe Bathel was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The driver of the pickup suffered only minor injuries.
DPS closed the I-10 in its eastbound direction at 107th Avenue for several hours while conducting their investigation. The road re-opened around 10:30 p.m.
