The Phoenix Police Department arrested a man for allegedly leaving his dog in a car, that died, while out drinking.

According to police, Peter Belford was at the Gallagher's Sports Bar in Scottsdale and left his dog inside his car for four hours.

Belford told police he left the rear passenger windows down halfway.

After two hours of being at the bar, Belford told police he went outside to give the black Labrador some water. The man then went back outside to his car two hours after that and found the dog dead.

Officials said the man went back to the bar to pay for his tab and drove the dead dog home.

Belford called his wife who in turn called police to advise them of the incident.

Belford told officers he had poured water on the dog but knew the animal was already dead. Officers say Belford never took the dog to a veterinarian for medical help.

The Arizona Humane Society is assisting in the investigation while Belford is being processed on one count of animal cruelty.
