An 82-year-old Rio Vista man has been accused of impersonating a Maricopa County Sheriff's Deputy.

Court document show that in the late evening of Sept. 30, Derrill Hume followed a car from Fountain Hills to Rio Vista because he believed the driver was driving erratically.

When the driver got to a cul-de-sac, Hume pulled in front of the car and confronted the victim. He presented himself as a deputy by pulling an ID card out of his wallet.

He asked the victim about her poor driving and possible DUI.

MCSO says he was brought to the victim's home under the false idea that he was a deputy.

Hume also presented himself as a reserve deputy to the victim's husband.

When MCSO talked to Hume he said he told both victim's that he was a "special deputy."

Hume showed his "MCSO Special Deputy ID Card" to MCSO and admitted he has no police authority. He said he used the card to identify himself as a "good guy."

Hume is now facing one count of impersonating a police officer.
