The Yuma County American Red Cross is looking for volunteers to help during disasters like power outages, floods and fires.

Volunteers will help at the Yuma Red Cross shelters where they will provide food, clothing, shelter and health services for families and children in disasters. The shelters also feed emergency workers, communicate with people outside the disaster and arrange blood donations.

Prospective volunteers are requested to attend a presentation about disasters by the Yuma Red Cross specialists, Tom Batson, on Oct. 17 at 9 a.m. at the Refinery Church near 32nd Street and Avenue B.

The Southern Chapter of the Arizona Red Cross responds to local emergencies nearly every 46 hours, serving more than 700 displaced persons each year.
