A Valley woman with her children was on a mission to help better the lives of a dog and kitten from Las Vegas, but her plan took a dark turn.

The family drove to Las Vegas, Nevada to pick up a dog and kitten that she was taking to a rescue in Yuma, Arizona.

But on the drive to Yuma, the vehicle the family was traveling in was involved in a car crash. The woman and her children were hospitalized.

The woman was seriously injured in the collision, and she's unable to provide information. The woman's husband is with his family now helping them.

At the moment, it's unknown exactly where the animals came from in Las Vegas and where they were specifically headed to in Yuma.

The animals were handed over to Maricopa County Animal Care and Control. Now they're trying to figure out who was supposed to receive the animals.

MCACC said the kitten is too young to be adopted out; the dog is older and is also timid. If the Yuma information isn't received or figured out, the animals will go up for adoption.

If you have any information, contact MCACC.
