Officials say a 29-year-old has been arrested after trying to smuggle hundreds of pounds of marijuana into the United States.

A release from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection office said a Jeep SUV was stopped in Douglas on August 17.

The vehicle was referred for a secondary inspection, where a narcotics detection K-9 helped officers locate "numerous" packages of marijuana from locations inside and outside the SUV, including inside its tires.

Authorities said they seized a total of 275 pounds of pot, which is worth an estimated $137,500, from the vehicle.

The man, who officials said was from Agua Prieta in the Mexican state of Sonora, was referred to Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. His name was not released.
