Investigators believe an arsonist or arsonists are behind at least five vacant home fires set in unincorporated areas near Casa Grande since February.

The most recent occurred early Saturday morning near Hanna Street and Thornton Road, according to Regional Fire & Rescue Department Chief Steve Kerber.

Kerber shared on the department’s Facebook page the incident was the seventh structure fire in the past 45 days. In at least five of those cases, arson is suspected.

Several of the earlier incidents occurred north of the city.

“It’s crazy — and why?,” Tim Tupper told ABC15. Tupper’s dogs woke him up after the property next door caught fire near Tangerine Road and Kit Carson Drive.

The Arizona Advisory Committee on Arson Prevention and Arizona Chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators are offering a reward up to $10,000 for information.

Those with information are being urged to call the “Arson Hotline” at 1-800-38-ARSON or Silent Witness at 520-636-2100.
