We're hearing about movers who want more money than the agreed amount.

They won't unload your belongings until you pay.

This is illegal and if it happens call the police.

Before you hire a mover, check reputations online.

The American Movers and Storage Association has a list of their members.

Make sure you sign a written estimate of costs and get a bill of lading that has each of your belongings listed.

Be there during the move and pay with a credit card if you can, not cash.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has a list of what to do before, during and after your move.

If you have damage, the moving company only has to give you 60 cents per pound unless you bought additional insurance.

For in-state moving complaints, contact the state's Department of Public Safety at this email address.

The phone number is 602-223-5000.
