Tornadoes are a very rare occurrence in Arizona, but they do happen.

According to data obtained from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, there have been 244 recorded tornadoes in central Arizona since 1950.

The most recent tornado encounter happened July 2016 in Mohave county.

Tornado activity is more common in the northern part of the state.
