Weekend travel alert: September 16-19

Loop 101 Northbound to close in Scottsdale

Drivers will see several freeway closures and restrictions this weekend, as crews work on improvement projects around the Valley.

The Arizona Department of Transportation recommends drivers allow extra travel time, use caution and consider alternate routes while the following scheduled restrictions are in place:

Northbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) closed between 90th Street and Shea Boulevard from 10 p.m. Friday to noon Saturday (Sept. 17) for widening project work, including installation of bridge deck joints. Northbound Loop 101 on-ramps at Indian Bend Road and Via De Ventura also closed. Expect heavy traffic and delays. DETOUR: Please consider alternate freeway routes, including westbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) to northbound State Route 51, or northbound Interstate 17, to connect with Loop 101. Northbound Loop 101 traffic exiting at 90th Street will detour north to Shea Boulevard to reconnect with Loop 101, but expect delays.

Westbound Interstate 10 narrowed to one lane between Sarival Avenue and Loop 303 from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Sept. 19) for rubberized asphalt paving. Westbound I-10 on-ramp at Estrella Parkway closed. DETOUR: Please allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes, including westbound McDowell Road or Van Buren Street to travel beyond the work zone and access I-10 via Citrus or Perryville roads.

Westbound Interstate 10 ramp to northbound Loop 303 closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Sept. 19) for construction. DETOUR: Drivers can connect with northbound Loop 303 by exiting westbound I-10 at Estrella Parkway or Sarival Avenue and using westbound McDowell Road and northbound Cotton Lane to reach Loop 303. Please allow extra travel time.

Eastbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) closed between Gilbert and Greenfield roads in Mesa from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Sept. 19) for rubberized asphalt paving. Eastbound Loop 202 on- and off-ramps also closed in the area. DETOUR: Please consider alternate routes, including eastbound US 60 (Superstition Freeway) or McDowell Road.

Westbound Grand Avenue (US 60) narrowed to one lane overnight at Camelback Road from 9 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 17), 9 p.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday (Sept. 18) and 9 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday (Sept. 19) for bridge repairs. DETOUR: Please allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes during overnight restrictions.

Southbound Interstate 17 off-ramp at Seventh Avenue closed from 4 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday (Sept. 19) for city of Phoenix utility project. DETOUR: Consider alternate southbound exits, including Seventh Street.
