Several freeways will be closed or restricted this weekend for improvement projects across the Valley, including the eastbound lanes of Loop 202 in Mesa.

The Arizona Department of Transportation says drivers should consider alternate routes and allow extra travel time while the following Phoenix-area weekend freeway restrictions are in place:

Eastbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) closed between Gilbert Road and McDowell Road (southeast of Power Road) from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Oct. 31) for widening project.

DETOUR: Consider alternate routes, including eastbound US 60 (Superstition Freeway). Local traffic can detour on eastbound McDowell Road.

Westbound Interstate 10 narrowed to one lane in areas between Verrado Way and State Route 85 from 10 p.m. Friday to 11 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 30) for rubberized asphalt paving. Westbound I-10 on-ramp at Verrado Way and westbound off- and on-ramps at Watson and Miller roads closed at times Saturday (Oct. 29).

DETOUR: Consider using an alternate route that includes westbound Southern Avenue to northbound Palo Verde Road (west of SR 85) to access westbound I-10 beyond the work zone. Note: Times are approximate and subject to change as paving work progresses.

Westbound Interstate 10 ramp to southbound State Route 85 closed from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 29) for pavement improvements.

DETOUR: Drivers can continue west on I-10 and exit at Palo Verde Road before turning and entering eastbound I-10 to reach southbound SR 85. Northbound SR 85 ramp to westbound I-10 also closed from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 29) for pavement improvements.

DETOUR: Drivers who normally would use this ramp can avoid extended delay by turning onto westbound Southern Avenue and using northbound Palo Verde Road to reach westbound I-10. Note: Times are approximate and subject to change as paving work progresses.

Westbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) connection to westbound Pecos Road closed at Interstate 10 from 3 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 30) for utility work.

DETOUR: Exit westbound Loop 202 to northbound Kyrene Road and use westbound Chandler Boulevard to southbound 40th Street to reach Pecos Road. Both I-10 ramps to westbound Pecos Road also closed.

DETOUR: Exit I-10 to westbound Chandler Boulevard and use southbound 40th Street to Pecos Road. Eastbound Pecos Road also closed at 40th Street.

DETOUR: Use northbound 40th Street to eastbound Chandler Boulevard and southbound Kyrene Road to reach Loop 202.

Grand Avenue (US 60) closed in both directions overnight between Dysart and Litchfield roads from 9 p.m. to 8 a.m. Friday and Saturday nights (Oct. 28-29) for painting of Bell Road Bridge.

DETOUR: Traffic can use detour along Dysart and Litchfield roads.

Westbound Interstate 10 ramp to northbound Loop 303 closed from 3 a.m. Saturday to 5 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 30) for overhead-ramp construction.

Southbound State Route 51 on-ramp from eastbound Bell Road closed from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 29) for city of Phoenix utility project.

DETOUR: Consider using southbound 32nd or 40th streets to Greenway Road to enter southbound SR 51.

Note: Westbound Bell Road access to southbound SR 51 on-ramp will remain open.
