No highway closures scheduled for Memorial Day weekend

PHOENIX - In an attempt to ease holiday travel, the Arizona Department of Transportation hasn't scheduled any road closures on state highways over Memorial Day weekend.

Heavy traffic is expected due to holiday travelers, especially in existing work zones, officials said.

However, the funeral processions for fallen firefighter Bradley Harper and slain police officer Daryl Raetz will close sections of roadway on Friday and Saturday.

Harper's procession will close sections of eastbound Loop 101 and southbound Interstate 17 on Friday afternoon starting at 3 p.m. Eastbound Loop 101 will be closed between 75th Avenue and I-17, while southbound I-17 will be closed between Loop 101 and McDowell Road.

The funeral procession for Officer Raetz will take place on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and close eastbound Loop 101 between 75th Avenue and Seventh Street.

Two of the locations with existing work zones that might cause delays are Interstate 10 between Prince and Ruthrauff roads in Tucson and Southbound Interstate 17 near Camp Verde.
