The New England Patriots rallied from 25 points down -- the largest comeback in Super Bowl history -- to defeat the Atlanta Falcons 34-28 in overtime at Super Bowl LI in Houston on Sunday. It was the first overtime in the history of the Super Bowl.
The Falcons took a 28-3 lead early in the third quarter, but the Patriots scored 31 unanswered points to upend NFL MVP Matt Ryan and Atlanta, which is winless in the Super Bowl in two attempts.
Tom Brady, who threw for 466 yards and two touchdowns, became the first quarterback in NFL history to win five Super Bowls. He was named Super Bowl MVP for a fourth time.
The Patriots tied the game at 28-28 with under a minute to play following a 1-yard touchdown run by James White and a subsequent two-point conversion pass from Brady to Danny Amendola.
The Patriots won the coin toss in overtime and the Falcons never had a chance to take the field, as Brady marched the Pats 75 yards to paydirt. White's 2-yard TD run sealed the victory.
