LeBron James and the director of "Black Panther" are officially on board to create the long-awaited "Space Jam" sequel, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The long-rumored sequel to the 1996 film starring Michael Jordan and Bugs Bunny will feature James, along with "Black Panther" director Ryan Coogler in a producer role. Filming for the movie will begin during the 2019 NBA offseason.

Director and musician Terence Nance, who directed the 2012 film "The Oversimplification of Her Beauty," will direct the "Space Jam" sequel.

SpringHill Entertainment, which was co-founded by James, released the following photo on its social media pages Wednesday.

James said he was inspired by Coogler and "Black Panther," especially because of the lack of black superheroes during his own childhood.

“I loved his vision... So for Ryan to be able to bring that to kids, it’s amazing," James told The Hollywood Reporter.
