PHOENIX - Friday Night Blitz: Week 10 highlights

(#7) Campo Verde Coyotes (8-1) at (#3) Mesquite Wildcats (8-1)

Let's get things started with our game of the week, Senior Night at Mesquite High School in Gilbert where the 8-1 Wildcats were hosting the 8-1 Campo Verde Coyotes.

Midway through the first quarter, third and five for Mesquite on the 9 yard line. Payton Haslam finds Jarrod James in the end zone and the Wildcats take a 7-0 lead.

Early in the second, third and goal for Mesquite, but Haslam gets sacked by Matt Edwards and the Wildcats are forced to settle for a field goal. Jarrod James lets this one sail, 46 yards, and it's good! 10-0 Mesquite!

Thirty seconds to go in the half, another first and goal for Mesquite, and Haslam hits Juan Giraldo for five yards and the Wildcats take a 17-0 lead into halftime.

Mesquite wins the Section Six Championship in Division II, beating Campo Verde, 30-0.

(#14) Cactus Cobras (6-3) at (#5) Peoria Panthers (9-0)

In the West Valley, the Cactus Cobras taking on the fifth ranked Peoria Panthers. Peoria gets a field goal in the third quarter to make it a 20-7 ball game, but Cactus fights back on this pass from Preston Guerra to Clayton Gilman to make it a six point ball game, 20-14.

But Peoria gets the win, 28-21.

(#5) Desert Ridge Jaguars (8-1) at (#11) Mountain View Toros (6-3)

Moving back to the East Valley, the fifth ranked Desert Ridge Jaguars taking on the Mountain View Toros.

In the third quarter, Jaguars quarterback Tate Shumway hands off to Taren Morrison and Morrison gives Desert Ridge a 49 -7 lead.

Seconds left to play, Mountain View has the ball on the Jaguars 29 yard line. Quarterback Trevor Willis keeps it himself and takes it all the way down to the two yard line. Clock ticking away and Willis hands off to Caleb Daniels for the score, but it's too little, too late as Desert Ridge wins big, 56-13.

(#19) Westwood Warriors (5-4) at (#23) Poston Butte Broncos (3-6)

The Westwood Warriors taking on the Poston Butte Broncos in San Tan Valley, with Air15 high above the action.

Westwood takes a 7-0 lead when Kane Tieman hits Josh Brown in the end zone, and Westwood gets the win, 14-7.

(#15) Brophy Prep Broncos (3-6) at (#17) Desert Vista Thunder (4-5)

In Ahwatukee, Desert Vista hosting the Brophy Broncos. After a scoreless first quarter, Brophy gets things moving with the running game. On third and one, Brian Woodward hands off to Ryan Velez and he's taken out of bounds right in front of our camera.

That play sets up the first touchdown of the game, Woodward's pass is complete to Issiah Oliver and Brophy takes a 7-0 lead.

The Broncos get the win, 34-7 and move to 4 & 6 on the season.

(#2) Chandler Wolves (7-2) at (#7) Highland Hawks (6-3)

A huge game in Gilbert between the second-ranked Chandler Wolves and the seventh-ranked Highland Hawks.

With five minutes to go in the first, Chandler comes knocking at the door. They attempted a field goal on fourth and goal from the five, but the kick is blocked and Highland's O'Niel Filloon came up with the ball and the Hawks took over.

With 2:10 to go in the first, still tied at zero, the Wolves had the ball on the Hawks six. Quarterback Bryce Perkins handed off to Terrell Flanigan and Flanigan took it into the end zone and Chandler took a 7-0 lead.

Midway through the second with Highland on the Chandler five yard line, Blake Young threw into the end zone, got bobbled, but Ryan McCord came down with it. He kept both feet in bounds to tie the game up at seven.

Chandler went on to win, 21-14.

(#11) Bradshaw Mountain Bears (7-2) at (#4) Queen Creek Bulldogs (7-2)

The Bradshaw Mountain Bears were at Queen Creek to face the Bulldogs.

Queen Creek running back Weston Barlow took a handoff in from the one yard line to get the Bulldogs on the board, 7-0.

Queen Creek went on to win this one by 20. The final: 46-26.

(#1) Yuma Catholic Shamrocks (7-1) at (#8) NW Christian Crusaders (7-2)

In Division V, the Yuma Catholic Shamrocks were in the Valley to face the Northwest Christian Crusaders.

Northwest Christian struck first from the 15 yard line. Travis Pollay had a nice run to give the Crusaders a 6-0 lead.

Yuma Catholic came right back. Carter Rodriguez scored from three yards out and the Shamrocks took a 7-6 lead.

Right before the half, Rodriguez scored again on the short touchdown to give Yuma a 14-6 lead going into halftime.

But Northwest Christian came back to win 26-14.

(#30) San Manuel Miners (4-5) at (#16) San Tan Foothills Sabercats (7-2)

The San Manuel Miners were up against the San Tan Foothills Sabercats in the far East Valley in week 10.

San Manuel quarterback Bryan Valdez got picked off by Garrett Baer. Baer returned it 78 yards for the touchdown.

San Tan Foothills got the win, 45-7.     

(#12) Scottsdale Prep Spartans (7-2) at (#13) Tempe Prep Knights (6-3)

A battle for first place in Division V, Section IV with Scottsdale Prep at the Tempe Knights.

A couple of interceptions late in the second quarter kept this one close. Tempe was on the move, but Benjamin LaBeau's pass was intercepted by Greyson Boyll. Then, with :26 to play in the half, Scottsdale Prep quarterback Nick Smith was picked off by Jonah Simminger in the end zone.

Scottsdale Prep came out strong to start the third quarter. Smith with the handoff to Boyll and he'd do the rest for the touchdown. Scottsdale would go for two, but the pass was knocked down. That play will come back to haunt them because Tempe came back to win, 27 to 26.
