Arizona Coyotes center Craig Cunningham is in critical but stable condition after collapsing on Saturday night, Coyotes coach Dave Tippett said Monday.
Cunningham, who currently plays for the Tucson Roadrunners, the Coyotes' American Hockey League affiliate, collapsed and was taken off the ice on the stretcher before Saturday's scheduled game vs. the Manitoba Moose in Tucson. Cunningham was transported to a nearby hospital, and the game was postponed.
"He's in stable but critical condition," Tippett said, according to Coyotes reporter Dave Vest. "His family is with him and he's getting unbelievable care."
The 26-year-old Cunningham is a native of British Columbia and was selected by the Boston Bruins with the 97th overall pick in the 2010 NHL Draft. He was claimed by the Coyotes during the 2015-16 season, and he has one goal and four assists in 29 career games with the team.
Cunningham is the Roadrunners' team captain. He has four goals and nine assists in 11 games this season, and in October, he scored the first goal in Roadrunners history.
The Roadrunners have canceled their games on Tuesday and Wednesday due to Cunningham's condition.
