Friday Night Blitz Game of the Week: Brophy vs. Hamilton

PHOENIX, AZ - This week, our ABC15 Friday Night Blitz crew will be at our "Game of the Week," Brophy Prep at Hamilton in Chandler.

Stay updated on all the Valley's high school sports action with Friday Night Blitz, airing every Friday night this fall on ABC15 News at 10 p.m.

Once again, the Hamilton Huskies are the team to beat in Division I, but don't count out Brophy coach, Scooter Molander and his Broncos.

Molander always seems to restock the cupboards, even when it looks like they're bare. While outsiders say the Broncos are in a rebuilding year, because they lost almost the entire starting unit from last year's semifinal team, they've already beaten a top contender in Scottsdale Desert Mountain.

The Broncos lost starting QB, Tyler Bruggman, and top receivers Devon Allen and Clarence Clark, but even with key losses, Brophy will be tough to beat.

Talking about new quarterback Brian Woodward, coach Molander says, "He's very athletic, he can run and he can throw the football."

Making matters worse for the Broncos, they start with Desert Mountain, Hamilton, Centennial, Red Mountain and Desert Ridge. Perhaps one of the most difficult schedules in Division I.

On the other sideline, the clear favorite in Division I (again) is Chandler Hamilton. The Huskies come into the season ranked 14th in the nation by MaxPreps and have eight players who have already received Division I college football offers.

But regardless of what Hamilton has, coach Steve Belles knows how to keep his team playing at a high level. The Huskies know coach Belles won't let them play at anything but a high level.

Given all the returners from last season, Hamilton's defense is the team's strong point!

Look for players like linebacker, Santana Sterling and lineman, Qualen Cunningham to anchor the front seven, while defensive backs Juwan Jones and Levi Sterling make it tough to throw against the Huskies.

Hamilton will have a new starting quarterback in Sammy Sasso but Coach Belles says the first year starter is already taking a leadership role on offense.

It's Brophy at Hamilton for our Week 2 Game of the Week.
