Kliff Kingsbuy. A guy who was fired at Texas Tech just a month-and-a-half ago. And now, the guy chosen to lead the Arizona Cardinals into the promised land.
So, what were the Cardinals thinking? How can a guy who’s never coached in the NFL and doesn’t have a winning record from his six seasons at Texas Tech come in here and save the day?
I’ll tell you how. Just like the Sun Devils did last winter in hiring Herm Edwards, the Cardinals swung for the fence, looking and hoping to hit a home run.
Kingsbury is known for his ability to develop quarterbacks and his innovative offensive mind -- two things the Cardinals desperately need. He's a guy who can bring some life to this organization, stir things up a bit, and develop Josh Rosen into a franchise quarterback. And even if Rosen doesn’t turn out to be that guy, Kingsbury will figure that out soon enough. He knows what to look for in a quarterback.

He’s young, so he can relate to players. And he loves football. He’s known to be the first to arrive at the football offices, and the last to leave. He is driven, he has tremendous desire, and dedication. Like ASU: If it works, it’s a major home run. If it fails, at least the Cardinals had the guts to think outside the box and try something new and different.
Sure, it’s a major risk. But when you’re 3-13 and last in every offensive category, what do you have to lose? Go hire a tried-and-true NFL guy who may get you to five wins next season? I don’t think that would excite Cardinal fans.
A lot of people are thinking this is a trendy hire, trying to find the next Sean McVay, the coach of the LA Rams. The question is, will lightning strike twice? We’ll see. But in the meantime, I give the Cards credit for thinking outside the box, and going for the gusto. Again, what do they have to lose?
