The idea of Governor Doug Ducey appointing Republican Martha McSally has been an idea being talked about well before Election Day. The governor appointed Jon Kyl to fill part of the late Senator McCain's term, but Kyl has only committed to serving through the end of the year.

The idea of replacing him with McSally, who lost her race to Senator-elect Kyrsten Sinema, is getting local and national attention after how close the race was.

Arizona Republic columnist Laurie Roberts, whose been critical of McSally during her campaign, says Republicans might just get what they wanted.

"We have a million people plus roughly 30-thousand that wanted Kyrsten Sinema," said Roberts in an ABC15 interview. "We have a million people minus 30-thousand that wanted Martha McSally. The fact is, we could have them both and maybe that's not just a terrible thing."

Governor Ducey's office addressed the idea Tuesday afternoon, saying the governor is hopeful Jon Kyl will continue to serve in the Senate until 2020 and at this point, isn't speculating on a vacancy that does not exist.
