Surprise police warn of fradulent repair services

SURPRISE, AZ - Police are warning Surprise residents of fraudulent repair schemes taking place in the area.

Surprise police announced on their Facebook page Thursday that they have received reports of people offering fake repair services to residents in the area. Those services include landscaping, vehicle repair and home repair.

Those offering the services have been known to contact people in public places like parking lots and in front of residents' homes, police said.

"The work is nowhere near the level promised," police said of the unprofessional repair jobs.

A good way to avoid getting scammed is to ask for proper identification like a business card, legitimate forms, proper tools and a business license, police said. The fraudulent repair workers almost always asked to be paid in cash only.

Police advise to do some research on anyone you hire to conduct a service. Best practice is to always use a licensed contractor, police said.

If you feel you've been a recent victim of one of these crimes and have information about the suspects, call police at (623) 222-4000.
