MCSO: Body of 17-year-old Daniel Snider recovered at Lake Pleasant

PEORIA, AZ - Maricopa County Sheriff's Office Patrol Divers recovered the body of a 17-year-old teen who went swimming near Lake Pleasant Friday afternoon and failed to resurface.

Christopher Hegstrom, spokesman for MCSO, said Daniel Snider was attempting to swim from one side to the other, according to two friends he was with, at Desert Tortoise Cove at Lake Pleasant when he "tensed up" and went under.

The body was recovered Saturday morning and will be sent to the Medical Examiner's Office to determine cause of death.

According to Snider's friends, they said his head "jerked" downward and he went under the water without saying anything nor attempting to swim back up to the surface.

Friends tried to find Snider, but then returned to their campsite to alert his mother and call 911.

The teen's mother said Snider was diagnosed with epilepsy when he was 8 years old. He would take medicine daily.

She said the teen was a good swimmer and did not have any physical disabilities.

Patrol divers searched for the teenager until 9:30 p.m. Friday evening.
