FD: 2 hurt after Peoria home burst into flames

PEORIA, AZ - Fire officials say two people were injured after a Peoria home burst into flames Wednesday night.

Peoria fire spokeswoman Amanda Jacinto said the fire started around 9:20 p.m at a home near 79th Avenue and Cholla Street.

Authorities told ABC15, a Peoria police officer was responding to an unrelated call next door when the fire broke out.

Peoria firefighters say two people were inside the home at the time of the explosion and dragged themselves outside.

They were then taken to the hospital.

Air15 video showed several fire crews on scene working to put the fire out.

Jacinto said the victims were flown to local hospitals in serious but stable condition.

Officials said neighbors in the area were evacuated as a precaution.

Fire crews are still investigating what caused the fire.

Officials with Southwest Gas are also investigating. Crews turned off the gas to five surrounding homes.
