PD: MCSO deputy Sean Pearce involved in deadly crash in Glendale

GLENDALE, AZ - Police say a man has died after a crash involving a Maricopa County Sheriff's deputy Monday afternoon in Glendale.

Glendale police Sgt. Jay O'Neill said a black Chevrolet, which was an unmarked MCSO vehicle, was traveling northbound on 59th Avenue in the center lane, heading toward Hayward Avenue just south of Northern Avenue.

The crash happened around 1 p.m. when a silver Nissan going westbound on Hayward Avenue, approaching 59th Avenue, pulled in front of the Chevrolet while making a left turn, O'Neill said.

The man driving the Nissan and the MCSO deputy were the only people in their vehicles.

Twenty-year veteran, Deputy Sean Pearce, was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The 63-year-old driver of the Nissan, John Edward Harding, was transported to the hospital where he later died.

Detectives said they do not believe speed or impairment were factors.

59th Avenue was closed just south of Northern Avenue for several hours during the investigation.
