PD: Couple visiting from North Carolina killed in Glendale crash

GLENDALE, AZ - Authorities say two people have died after an accident in Glendale Sunday afternoon.

The collision happened at 75th Avenue and Bell Road around 3:20 p.m.

Glendale police Officer Tracey Breeden identified the victims as 71-year-old Robert Kelly and his wife 70-year-old Nelda Kelly.

Breeden said an adult male in his 30s drove his silver sedan through a red light while traveling north on 75th Avenue and hit a white sedan traveling east on Bell Road. The white sedan then hit an SUV next to it.

The driver of the silver sedan and the driver and passenger in the SUV were checked out and treated at the scene by fire personnel.

Breeden said the driver of the white sedan was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and later released. Breeden said the driver is a relative of Robert and Nelda Kelly who were visiting for the holidays from Hampstead, North Carolina.

Detectives do not believe impairment was a factor in the collision and it is unknown yet whether speed was a related factor, according to Breeden.
