Police have identified an 18-year-old man who died Friday after he was shot by an officer and crashed a car in Glendale.

Police say just after 3 p.m. Officer Andrew Johnson came upon a fight between four men on the side of the road near Bethany Home Road and 63rd Avenue.

During the fight, Jayden Young pulled out a handgun and started to fire at two of the men, according to police.

Officer Johnson returned fire, fearing for the safety of the victims, police said.

Young continued to fire at the victims and was struck by gunfire.

Police say two of the victims remained on scene. One suffered life-threatening injuries from a gunshot wound and was transported to the hospital where he remains in critical condition.

A 17-year-old suspect fled from the scene on foot and was later taken into custody by police.

Police say Young fled in a vehicle that had previously been reported stolen, and crashed into the front yard of a home not far from the original scene.

Young went into a backyard and was found dead, according to police.

Officer Johnson was not injured during the incident.
