County officials have received three dozen calls after thousands of flies began infiltrating a West Valley neighborhood.

"It's like an invasion of flies," Victor Davis describes. "We're trying to figure out where they're coming from."

Davis, who has lived in the Sonoran Vista community in Buckeye since September, said over the last two weeks he's set up fly trap after fly trap. But no matter how many he catches, they keep coming.

While the area is known to see flies due to its location sandwiched between farmlands and live stock, the recent influx is even surprising for county officials.

According to Maricopa County Vector Control, they've had at least 35 calls on the flies just in the past 15 days.

County worker John Townsend says as the climate cools and manure is laid for winter grass, flies tend to become active breeders. But they've since sent investigators out to look for possible sources of this recent infestation.

"We're definitely trying to see where they're coming from, but as of right now, I don't have a good answer for you."

With no real answers on where the pests are coming from, neighbors are just hoping once the climate settles down, the flies will make their way out.

"Maybe they'll go away, but if they don't I'm thinking about coming out here with hair spray and a lighter," Davis joked.
