Katy Perry contest winner: Lakewood High School in Colorado wins; Verrado to get signed plaque

BUCKEYE, AZ - Verrado High School in Buckeye made national headlines this month after their YouTube video for the "Good Morning America" Katy Perry contest went viral.

On Friday morning, pop star Perry announced on "GMA" that Lakewood High School in Colorado was the winner in the contest.

Lakewood wins a concert at their school on Oct. 25.

But Verrado is still getting honored by Perry with a personalized, signed plaque from her to showcase at their school.

On Sept. 6, " GMA" and Perry teamed up to challenge high schools across the country to create the best music video using Perry's song "Roar."

Verrado's two-minute video showcases a senior born with a learning disability, who has become an inspiration on their campus.

She has been on the cheerleading team all four years and has been its heart and soul.

Perry and the "GMA" team said Verrado's video gave them "chills."

At the end of the segment, Perry announced that Megan Squire, the star of the video, will be her "date" to an upcoming concert along with her friends.

The video has 156,000 views on YouTube as of Friday morning.
