Tempe police Cmdr. Noah Johnson said officers received several calls of shots fired in the area of a church on McClintock Drive near US 60 around 12:30 a.m.

Johnson said a few minutes later they got another call from an AM/PM store at McClintock Drive and Southern Avenue where officers found a man with gunshot wounds.

The victim was taken to a local hospital with significant but non-life-threatening injuries, Johnson said.

Johnson said the victim and another man with him are being "extremely uncooperative" with investigators.
