Tempe police looking for hit-and-run driver, video released of skateboarder before he was hit

TEMPE, AZ - Police have released new surveillance video of a hit-and-run accident that critically injured a skateboarder in Tempe.

Authorities said the accident happened around 3:30 p.m. at University Drive and Ash Avenue.

Sgt. Michael Pooley said that 24-year-old Dustin Kalkbrenner was crossing University Drive when he was hit by a silver or gray Nissan Xterra.

Kalkbrenner was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Pooley said the SUV left the scene southbound into the adjacent neighborhood and was last seen speeding on or near Farmer Avenue from University Drive.

Pooley said the suspect is believed to be a white or light-skinned male in his early 20s with bushy brown shoulder length hair and a hair comb or pick stuck in it.

He said police also believe there was a passenger in the vehicle, the only description being that it appeared to be a white male.
