Police work to stop indecent acts in Tempe parks' bathrooms

TEMPE, AZ - Tempe police arrested a man for indecent exposure in Papago Park on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the police report, the man exposed himself and masturbated in front of the sink of the men's public restroom. Police say two men were in the restroom when this occurred.

Police followed the man in his minivan before arresting him nearby. The suspect made bail and got out of jail the same night and is awaiting his court appearance in two weeks.

Tempe police say over the past of couple months they've received a number of complaints from residents who have seen sexual acts, and/or graffiti that implies sexual acts, in men's bathrooms in various north Tempe public parks.

A similar problem occurred at Papago Park back in 1998, where men were using public restrooms to engage in sexual acts, police said.

"This is just disgusting. Especially with it happening so close to the zoo where lots of kids and families are at. It's not right," said one hiker.

Tempe police are actively investigating to see if this is one person or a number of people participating in the sexual acts.

Officials urge anyone who sees suspicious activity to contact police.
