A Marine was killed in a parachute accident in Coolidge on Monday, according to the US Marine Corps.
The Marine, 22-year-old Corporal Alejandro Romero, was in training with the US Marine Corps School of Infantry West.
Officials say Romero was killed in a double-bag static line parachute mishap during the multi-mission parachute course.
All double-bag static line parachuting operations have been suspended until further notice, according to USMC.
The USMC released the following statement on Romero's service:
"Romero, 22, from Carson, Calif., honorably served as a Reconnaissance Scout with Bravo Company, 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force based in Okinawa, Japan. His personal awards include the National Defense Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon."
"A preliminary investigation is underway which will be followed by a Safety Investigation Board with support from multiple subject matter experts," USMC said in a statement.
