PD: Suspect in custody after barricading self inside Mesa building

MESA, AZ - Police say a man wanted for trying to cash a stolen check in Mesa is in custody after a barricade situation.

Sgt. Tony Landato confirmed the suspect was apprehended just after 5 p.m. near Country Club and University drives.

The name of the suspect wasn't immediately released Wednesday.

Police say he tried to cash a stolen check at a check-cashing store before fleeing to a vacant building.

That started a brief barricade situation.

Police tell ABC15, at one point, the suspect agreed to come out, but got stuck in the attic, forcing officers to go in and get him.

Authorities say one SWAT team officer suffered minor injuries that weren't inflicted by the suspect.
