PD: US Marshal shoots fugitive in Valley Food City parking lot

MESA, AZ - Authorities are investigating after U.S. Marshals opened fire on a wanted fugitive in a Valley grocery store parking lot Monday night.

Marshals said they have been tracking the 24-year-old man for a while now.

Phoenix police tell ABC15 they got the call to assist around 5:30 p.m.

They say the suspect was in the passenger seat of a dark-colored sedan.

When the car pulled into the Food City parking lot near 48th Street and Southern, U.S. Marshals boxed it in.

That's when police say the man climbed out of the passenger window and a U.S. Marshal shot him several times.

Law enforcement officials tell ABC15 the suspect was wanted in connection with the burglary of an assault rifle from a Pinal County Sheriff's office patrol vehicle.

The suspect was rushed to the hospital with critical, but non-life threatening injuries.

His name is expected to be released once he is out of the hospital and booked.

Authorities said no officers or law enforcement personnel were injured.

Police said the man who was driving, 24-year-old Cosso Juarez, was arrested for possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.
