PD: Man releases dogs on Mesa officers, officers suffer minor injuries

MESA, AZ - Two officers have sustained minor injuries after dogs were released on them during a call in Mesa on Tuesday night.

According to Mesa police Sgt. Tony Landato, the incident started when two officers saw 31-year-old Adam Carlsen pushing his girlfriend against a wall near Broadway Road and Ellsworth around 11:45 p.m.

Officers attempted to detain Carlsen, but he resisted arrest and shoved and punched both officers, Landato said.

During the incident, the 31-year-old man ran to the door of the home and released two dogs, Landato said.

Both of the officers sustained minor injuries while trying to arrest Carlsen. One officer had to be transported to the hospital to be treated for dog bites after being bitten by both dogs.

The dogs have been quarantined at a local animal hospital for observation.

Carlsen was booked on aggravated assault on law enforcement, resisting arrest, criminal damage and assault.
