Mesa police arrest Richard Miller on suspicion of trespassing, aggravated assualt

MESA, AZ - Mesa police arrested Richard Miller early Tuesday morning on suspicion of trespassing at a CVS Pharmacy and assaulting an officer.

According to the Mesa Police Department, officers responded to the CVS Pharmacy near Brown Road and Mesa Drive in Mesa around 4 a.m. and found Miller on the property.

Police said 52-year-old Miller was acting strange and kept putting his hands into a bag he had with him.

According to officials, police asked him to stop putting his hand into the bag and he allegedly refused.

When an officer tried to take away the bag in case there was a weapon inside, Miller allegedly attacked the officer by hitting him in the face and head.

Police said the officer tried to use his stun gun, but Miller allegedly wouldn't stop.

Officials said other officers arrived and used another stun gun on Miller before arresting him.

Miller was taken to Mesa Regional Hospital before he was booked into jail on suspicion of criminal trespassing and aggravated assault on a police officer.

The officer was taken to Banner Desert Hospital for a swollen eye.
