A Mesa man is accused of burning his son's Mercedes after his son refused to make payments on the car.

Keith Michael Pomonis, 45, is charged with two counts of arson.

According to court documents, surveillance video shows Pomonis using what appears to be a small gasoline can to light two vehicles on fire, including the family's Mercedes sedan. Another truck parked next to the car was also lit on fire in the shared business parking lot in the 6000 block of East Baseline Road.

The fire broke out on Friday night, Aug. 25.

"I felt mad and sad," said Kari Thompson with Fountain of Life Christian Fellowship, which is located a few doors down from where the fire started. "I think that people need to think about the things and choices that they make."

Pomonis rents several suites in the business complex, according to court documents. After responding to the fire, Mesa Police told Pomonis about the surveillance video, and he later told investigators "there was no doubting that he did it."

Pomonis told investigators that he purchased the vehicle for his son and he co-signed on the car to help his son build credit, although his son refused to make the payments and "had become entitled," according to documents filed in court.

This made Pomonis angry and frustrated — along with other family issues, according to court documents.
