FD: Man burned in Mesa townhome fire

MESA, AZ - A Mesa man suffered cuts and burns as he tried to escape a fire in his home on Sunday.

The Mesa Fire Department says the man who lives in the 2-story townhome near Alma School Road and Main Street is legally blind.

Officials say he was on the second floor when he smelled smoke.

The man broke out a window and was hanging from a railing when a neighbor told him to jump.

He landed in some bushes and cut his feet.

He also sustained second and third-degree burns.

Officials say his townhome is a total loss. No other units were affected.

There was no immediate word on the cause of the fire, but officials believe it started on the first floor of the unit.
