Highland High School instructor Joseph Stephenson accused of having sexual conduct with minor

GILBERT, AZ - Gilbert police have arrested a ROTC instructor at Highland High School on charges of having sexual conduct with a minor.

According to Gilbert police, it was determined 41-year-old Joseph Stephenson allegedly engaged in a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old female student.

Police say the teen confided with her sister about having sex with the instructor. The sister then told her parents who called police.

On Tuesday, the school sent out an email to parents saying police arrested Stephenson and he had been charged with sexual conduct with a 15-year-old female student.

A student in the ROTC program told ABC15, there are anywhere between 10-15 students from each grade in the program.

"The chief, the guy who got arrested like he made friends with everybody in the class like all of the students and everybody," said Matthew Martinez, a freshman at the school.

Officials say Stephenson has worked at the school since August of 2013.

Authorities say he has been booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail.

Police say the case is still under investigation and they are looking for other potential victims.
