Gilbert police investigate 2 shootings for possible links

GILBERT, AZ - Gilbert police are investigating whether two shootings that left one man and one woman injured late Saturday night are connected.

Shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday, police responded to a reports of gunfire in a Gilbert neighborhood near Palm and Betsy.

Lt. John Lyle of the Gilbert Police Department told ABC15 that a house party was happening nearby when the gunfire erupted. Witnesses said they heard between 20-30 gun shots.

Police arrested 20-year-old Jhaquel Delvon Will Lewis late Sunday morning on aggravated assault charges connected to the shooting.

Lyle said police arrived to find one woman shot in the arm and 100 people in the street.

He said, "We're extremely lucky that we don't have more injured people." The female victim who was shot in the arm was transported to a local hospital and has been released.

A second shooting occurred about 45 minutes later at a gas station less than a mile away from the first shooting. That is near Gilbert and Warner roads.

It is not known if Lewis, or someone else, is connected to the shooting near Gilbert and Warner, according to police.

One man was shot in the back, but his condition is unknown.

Police are expected to be on the scene of both of these shootings for several hours and will continue to investigate.
