Fire burns through Gilbert home, 2 dogs believed to be safe

GILBERT, AZ - Investigators are looking into the cause of an early morning fire at a Gilbert home Friday.

Gilbert fire Capt. Mike Connor said no one was home at the residence near Elliot and Gilbert roads when the fire was reported around 6 a.m.

There were two dogs in the home but it is believed they got out OK when firefighters began fighting the fire.

Connor said the first crews on scene were confronted by heavy fire from the front of the house. He said the fire then flashed and moved to the back of the house.

Crews made a sweep of the home to make sure no one was inside.

Connor said firefighters were hampered by the amount of "stuff" inside the house and outside.

Investigators are at the scene working to determine what caused the fire.
